Eight students from Valley Stream Central High School District—representing Central, Memorial, North, and South high schools—recently showcased their poetic talent at the Poetry Out Loud semifinalist competition held at the Walt Whitman Birthplace Museum. The student-poets competed against their peers from across Nassau County. Their poetry recitations were judged on accuracy, physical presence, articulation, and overall performance.
The Valley Stream Central School District was represented by:
- Central High School: Haley Gutierrez and Meerab Shahzad
- Memorial Junior High School: Emily Jackson and Kelsy Mallari
- North High School: Rachel Ezeadichie and Jasmine Roberts
- South High School: Cedrize Bramble and Dylana Gleim
Based on the judges’ evaluations, Rachel and Dylana secured spots in the New York State Poetry Out Loud championships, scheduled to take place on March 15 in New York City. They will compete against regional winners from across New York State.
