January 23, 2023

Two Valley Stream Central High School District violinists were selected to take part in the New York State School Music Association’s All-State Winter Concert this past December. Central High School student Tinatin Narimanidze took part in this prestigious concert, while North High School student Elyas Layachi was selected as an alternate.

Tinatin began playing the violin at age 4. Soon she was performing across the New York City. She has played in the All-County and Long Island String festivals since 5th grade and has received perfect scores in her NYSSMA evaluation performances throughout her elementary and high school years. She has been accepted to the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College division and plans to pursue a career in music after high school.

In addition to being a member of the North Senior High School Orchestra, Elyas is also part of the 7:10 Downbeats a Capella ensemble and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. He has been an annual participant in the prestigious Valley Stream District Music Festival for both orchestra and chorus and has represented North at a number of NYSSMA All-County Music Festivals. In addition to his musical pursuits, Elyas is the Managing Editor of the NorthStart student news publication, captain of the cross-country team and a member of the National Honor Society. He plans to study aerospace engineering with the goal of working for NASA.
