The Valley Stream Central High School District has selected John Kostkowicz as its new District Athletic Director. He replaces Brett Kornblum, who is now Athletic Director at the Jericho Union Freel School District.
A proud alumnus of Valley Stream Central High School’s Class of 1995, Kostkowicz is proud to bring his expertise, and head up the athletic programs in the District where his own journey in athletics and education began. “It means a great deal to me to see Valley Stream’s athletic programs thrive, and I’m excited to be part of that continued growth and success,” Kostkowicz said.
Kostkowicz was a multi-sport varsity athlete during his time at Central. His passion for athletics continued at Stony Brook University, where he played Division I football, and eventually led him back to his roots to begin his career in education as a physical education and health teacher at Valley Stream North in 2005.
Kostkowicz holds a master’s degree in physical education from Adelphi University and New York State certifications in school building and district leadership. In 2017, he began serving as building Athletic Director at Valley Stream South starting, where he honed his administrative skills before a brief tenure as Building Athletic Director at New Hyde Park in 2024.
His deep involvement in Nassau County athletics is demonstrated by his current role as the Section VIII Girls Lacrosse Coordinator and his board membership with the Lynbrook PAL Titans lacrosse program. His extensive resume showcases a lifelong dedication to coaching nearly a dozen sports at all levels, from football and wrestling to badminton and lacrosse.
