VSCHSD Robotics Club is Up and Running

March 6, 2024

The Valley Stream Central High School District is proud to announce that its brand-new robotics club for the 2023-2024 school year is hard at work constructing its first-ever robot. This club gives District students another opportunity to flex their STEM skills while gaining a sense of teamwork and camaraderie along the way.

The formation of the VSCHSD robotics club was included in the budget for the 2023-2024 school year, and all juniors and seniors Districtwide are welcome to join. The club uses the Vex Robotics line of components, which gives students a set of tools to design, program and construct their own robotic creations. Vex robots have been used in competitions across the country and worldwide, and give students a robust and wide toolset to demonstrate their creativity and come up with innovative designs for a variety of tasks.

Students have already flocked to take part in this new offering in the District, and their goal for the remainder of the school year is to build their first robot, with competitions in store for the following school years. The students meet bimonthly, and the club is located in the District’s brand-new auto repair career and technology education garage, where they can take advantage of the classroom’s cutting edge repair tools and technology.

“We are constantly striving to provide as many opportunities as we can for our students to pursue their interests,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Wayne Loper. “Additional offerings in STEM, and in particular robotics, was one area where we knew we wanted to expand, and I am glad to see students already taking advantage of this exciting new resource in our District.”
