Dr. Kelly Whitney-Rivera, the District Director of Guidance and Chief Information Officer for the Valley Stream Central High School District, has been selected as a 2025 Long Island School Hero by the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying (LICAB). The Long Island School Hero Awards honor individuals within Long Island’s school communities who go above and beyond to foster kindness, inclusion, and safety.
Dr. Whitney-Rivera has demonstrated a major commitment to educational equity on both a state and local level. She was selected to serve on New York State’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures, a 40-member body tasked with developing more equitable graduation requirements to better serve New York’s diverse student population. She continued this work more recently as a panelist for the Proposed Transformations in Graduation Forum at St. John’s University in October 2024.
Dr. Whitney-Rivera has also overseen efforts to maximize student success in the Valley Stream school community, spearheading initiatives to ensure students are college and career ready when they graduate.
