The Valley Stream Central High School District Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting on July 8, during which the Board President and Vice President were sworn in for the 2025-2026 school year, as well as new and returning trustees.
The nine-person body comprises trustees selected to serve on the Central High School District Board by the Valley Stream District 13, District 2,4 and District 30 boards of education. Kelly Ureña, from District 30, was nominated as President for the 2025-2026 year, and Patricia Farrell, from District 13, was nominated as Vice President of the Board. The new trustees on the Central High School District Board this year are Markus Wilson, from District 24, and Sarah Sabatino from District 13. Returning Trustees from the previous year include District 24’s John Maier and Melissa Herrera, District 13’s Gerardo Cavaliere, and District 30’s Kenneth Cummings and James Lavery.
New this year was the swearing in of the Valley Stream Central High School District’s ex officio board members. They are: Jaskeerat Kaur from Central High School, Sara Zafar from South High School, and Abigail Mathew from North High School. Working in a similar capacity to the District’s student representatives, who these positions replace, these student Board members will not only act as voices for the District’s students, but also provide valuable student insight and input into the Board’s decision-making processes.
Patricia Farrell was sworn in as Board of Education Vice President.
Jaskeerat Kaur from Central High School, Sara Zafar from South High School, and Abigail Mathew from North High School were sworn in as the 2025-2026 school year’s ex officio board members.
