The Valley Stream North boys track team had another standout season this year, securing its 20th consecutive conference championship and repeating as Nassau County Class C champions. The county title marks the 12th winter championship in 16 seasons for the Spartans.
The team came first in the county meet in February at St. Anthony’s High School, emerging well ahead of a 20-team field by 90 points over the closest competitor. The Spartans captured first or second place in 10 events, including all three relays, and accumulated 141 points.
Individual county championship performances came from senior A.J. Strojan in shot put, junior Max Estrada in pole vault, and junior Evan Troung in the 1000 meters. Evan also secured a comeback victory in the 4×800 relay, making up 12 seconds to secure the title.
A.J. set a personal best in shot put with a throw of 42 feet, becoming North’s 29th throwing county champion in the past 10 years.
Junior Dominick Rios contributed with second-place finishes in both the 55-meter hurdles and 300-meter dash, setting personal records and bettering state standards in both events. Freshmen Gavin Trusty and Kyle Farina also earned All-County honors in distance events.
