Valley Stream, NEW YORK (April, 2022)—Valley Stream South High School seventh grader Sudan Belnavis won first place in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (NYSDEC) Create a Watershed Super Hero poster contest for a drawing of her hero, H20.
Sudan’s poster went up against 400 submissions from students in 20 schools across the state. She was selected first among 14 finalists by a panel comprising NYSDEC Division of Water Staff and members of the New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA).
The contest is intended to highlight the importance of maintaining water quality across the globe. Sudan’s and the other finalists’ posters will be featured in the 2023 NYWEA calendar.
