Valley Stream North High School students from grades 7 through 12 sang The Star-Spangled Banner at Citi Field ahead of the Mets game on May 6. The performance was conducted by North chorus teacher Debra Schneider as part of the Mets’ “National Mental Health Awareness Day” festivities.
The 60 students wore matching green Spartan music t-shirts, designed by eighth grader Jasmine Leng, and were supported at the game by over 400 parents, administrators, and teachers from Valley Stream North and other schools in the Valley Stream community.
“Conducting these students has been such a great experience. Being able to sing at Citi Field made all of their hard work worthwhile,” Ms. Schneider said, “This was a great way for them to see the places music could take them in life.”
