Valley Stream, NEW YORK (February, 2022) — On Friday, February 11, students and staff at Valley Stream Memorial Junior High School took part in the 12th annual P.S. I Love You Day.
P.S. I Love You Day is a day to remind everyone that they are loved. Each year, Memorial joins more than 200 schools across the country in making an extra effort to spread kindness; raise mental health awareness; and remind everyone that they are loved, special, needed and never alone. This year’s theme was One Step at a Time.
Members of Memorial’s Believe in the Rights and Values of Everyone or, BRAVE, Club began preparations for the day in January by participating in a video conference with Brooke DiPalma, the founder of P.S. I Love You Day. Ms. DiPalma shared her story with the students, and the students shared their plans for this year’s celebration.
BRAVE Club members then made tie-dye purple face masks to help Memorial celebrate. Additionally, students and staff wore purple, the lobby was decorated with purple signs and streamers and all students were given a purple ribbon and a card explaining the significance of the day as they entered the building. Finally, members of the club placed a positive message on each classroom door in the building to greet students and staff.
