Valley Stream Central High School District’s Performing Arts Students Present Pippin

November 12, 2021

Valley Stream, NY (November 2021)—Valley Stream Central High School District’s Performing Arts students will be performing Pippin, a 1972 musical, based on a book by Roger O. Hirson, with music and lyrics by Stephan Schwartz. The young thespians will be performing at the Bert Keller Auditorium on Thursday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m.
The Valley Stream Central High School District’s Performing Arts Program is a program for all the students in the District who are ambitious and passionate about performing. The Performing Arts Program classes include acting, theatre arts, theatre production, movement, dance, musical theatre and text performance.

“I know this show will be absolutely fantastic. Our students never fail to amaze us with their passion and commitment to performance” said Dr. Wayne Loper, Acting Superintendent of Valley Stream Central High School District. “After not being able to perform in front of an audience last year, this will be an especially exciting show for both our student performers and our audience members.”

A’Shya Dawson, a junior at Valley Stream Central High School, will be making her debut in a lead role. Dancing, singing, and acting since she was a small girl, A’Shya’s dream is to perform on Broadway.

Azriel Perez, a senior, will be starring as Pippin. This will be his last show performing as a student at Valley Stream Central High School. Azriel performed in many Central productions, reenacting roles such as Amos in Chicago, Professor Plum in CLUE! Live on Stage and Horton in Seussical. Pippin will be a full production with dancers, pit orchestra, production staff, production crew and tech crew.

“I hope that many in our Valley Stream community will be able to attend and show their support for our student actors,” said Patrick Tirino, Director and Choreographer of the musical. “These students put in so much time and effort to perfect their roles. Hearing the applause of the audience, knowing that their performances have been appreciated and enjoyed, is what drives their passion. For these young actors, it is an experience that stays with them for the rest of their lives.”
