Congratulations to twin Central High School sophomores, Layyibah Hussian and Tayyibah Hussian, who won first place in the high school illustration category in the New York State Art Teachers' Association’s annual Olympics of the Visual Arts. Their challenge was to create an illustration of a famous artist from history and turn them into a superhero. Each sister was able to bring the skills they acquired through their Cartooning and Animation and Drawing and Painting classes to develop together an award-winning image.
They designed an original work of art which celebrates the artist Henri Matisse. From more than 200 submissions from across the state, their work was chosen for first place in the high school illustration category. A statewide competition for students at all levels, the Olympics challenges students in a variety of disciplines, like drawing, sculpture and photography. The projects will be displayed at NYSATA’s virtual exhibition for 2021.
