The district applauds Central High School junior Emily Monfort for winning the top overall award during the 2021 Long Island Youth Summit. Students from nearly 40 school districts compete in this annual program. This year’s event was held virtually, where 170 students were selected as finalists, with Emily being the overall winner of this year’s program.
Her video submission was recognized as the Best Overall Youth Summit Project for this year. Her video focused on students’ mental health and how they are coping with COVID-19 pandemic. For her award, she was presented with a plaque, certificate and a $1,000 check from Youth Summit representatives.
Emily said she was shocked when she learned her project received such high honors. “I did pour my heart into this project and this acknowledgment helped me realize that I should have more faith in myself. Of course, I cannot neglect the contributions my peers, teachers, and the school psychologists provided in helping me create an amazing video project. I feel honored to have been chosen to represent Central at the Youth Summit and am overjoyed to have received an incredible award.”
