The district is proud to congratulate Central High School junior Amanda Parfait who was selected as a winner of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition.
The art competition is hosted by members of congress every year. Each member of the house selects artwork from students who live in their district. Congressman Gregory Meeks selected Amanda’s self-portrait as the New York Fifth District winner. Her work will be hung in the underground walkway between the House Offices and the Capital Building in Washington, D.C. for a period of one year.
Amanda’s award-winning self-portrait was developed as part of the curriculum in her Advanced Drawing and Painting Course. She managed to create the beautiful piece even though she was learning full-remote this year. Her art teacher Mr. Mario Bakalov said Amanda is looking forward to completing the Advanced Placement Portfolio as part of her studies next year.
