Valley Stream South High School 7th and 8th grade students teamed up with the school’s History Honor Society to create special projects highlighting inspirational black figures in American history. The projects were created in honor of Black History Month.
Throughout the school, the groups decorated social studies classroom doors, each highlighting different themes and famous figures. There were doors dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and Katherine Johnson, the NASA mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics made the first spaceflights possible.

The decorations adorned the school’s social studies classroom doorways, and followed a variety of themes.

Junior high school students at South created special Black History Month-themed door decorations at the school.
