Valley Stream South High School student Esmeralda Archibold has won first place in the high school category of the 2023 New York State Art Teachers Association Youth Art Month Flag Contest. Esmerelda was among more than 300 students statewide who submitted artwork. Her art teacher is Edward Lee.
Founded in 1961, Youth Art Month takes place every March, and it is intended to emphasize the value of art education for all children and encourage support for quality school art programs. The theme for this year’s flag contest was Your Art, Your Voice.
As a winner, Esmeralda receives a prize pack of art supplies from BLICK and a certificate from GOLDEN Artist Colors. Her work will also be featured on the Youth Art Month website and social media platforms in the weeks leading up to March.
