The district is proud to announce that South High School senior Abdullah Ali had his AP Capstone research, “The Impact of Vocal Features on Song Success,” published in the Journal of Student Research.
After researching previous studies, Abdullah realized that while there has been research on various acoustical and audio features and their correlation to top-charting songs, there was a gap in the research specifically on an artists’ voice in determining popular music patterns. Therefore, he conducted a trend analysis to find patterns in music between 1980-2019 by analyzing five distinct vocal features. He specifically analyzed vowel corruption, pitch, intensity, number of pulses and voicing.
The district applauds Abdullah on this tremendous accomplishment.
