South School Community Donates to Families in Need

December 16, 2022

The Valley Stream South High School community worked together to collect a total of 62 baskets of food for families in need this Thanksgiving as part of the school’s Family Service Day on November 19.

In the lead-up to the day, and under the leadership of Principal Maureen Henry, members of South’s student body, clubs and honor societies gathered donated food items. On November 18, members of South’s National Junior Honor Society helped organize the donations. The next morning, more than 50 volunteer families arrived at South to assemble and decorate the baskets before delivering them to local families in need.

South’s student body worked together to gather donated food for families in need ahead of Family Service Day.

On the evening prior to Family Service Day, members of South’s National Junior Honor Society helped organized all of the donated food.

On the day itself, South’s students and their families arrived to gather the food into baskets that would then be donated to local families in need.

The families also decorated the baskets. In total, 62 baskets of food were collected and donated.
