Valley Stream South High School’s student-run literary magazine, Trials of Society, has earned first place in the American Scholastic Press Association’s (ASPA) Scholastic Review and Contest. This marks the second consecutive year the magazine has been recognized by the ASPA, following a similar achievement last year.
Trials of Society is a collaborative effort showcasing the creativity and talent of Valley Stream South students. The magazine features original writing and artwork curated, edited, and published by a dedicated team of student editors. The editorial staff meets weekly to discuss layout, design, and content organization, ensuring a polished and professional final product. This year’s issue is the twelfth edition of the magazine, reflecting over a decade of commitment to celebrating student voices.
The ASPA’s Scholastic Review and Contest evaluates student publications nationwide based on criteria such as content, design, creativity, and overall presentation. “Our creative and talented editorial staff never ceases to amaze,” said Trials of Society advisor Michael Florio. “They pour their heart and soul into each edition, and it is always an honor to have their work recognized on the national stage.”
