South High School hosts ‘Bring It On: The Musical’

December 13, 2021

Valley Stream, New York (December 2021) — On Nov. 19 and 20 the South High School Theatrical Troupe proudly staged “Bring It On: The Musical,” a play chronicling cheerleading squads at two rival high schools.

Performers playing the heads of each squad included ninth grader Tatiana Rossello, ninth grader Tiffany Gonsalves and tenth grader, Tabitha Moore. All three are also enrolled in Central High School’s Performing Arts Program.

Other leading performers included seniors Liz Lopez, Connor Menzies, Kiefer Villarreiz and Megan Ward, eleventh grader Zoe Briksa, tenth graders Luke Lopez and David Providence, ninth grader Mya Augustin and seventh grader Sudan Belnavis. Students prepared by attending daily and Saturday rehearsals, and engaged in lessons on cheer arms and cheer face as well as hip-hop and classic Broadway dance.

As part of the message of the play all of the characters ultimately learn that friendship is a prize more valuable than a trophy. Both shows were sold out, with audiences and performers thrilled at the return to live theater. This was South’s first musical since 2019. The cast put on an incredible show and their hard work and dedication were evident.
