EXTRA-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS
Central’s extracurricular program serves a two-fold purpose. It provides opportunities for learning experiences growing out of one’s individual interests and it supplements and enriches the curricular offerings. A basic Central philosophy advocates that students who are a basic part of these programs are more closely connected to the school and will benefit both personally and knowledgeably by their involvement. Students should be aware that participation in activities is recorded on the report card and will also appear on transcripts sent to other institutions. Participation in extracurricular activities also impacts selection into National Honor Society. All students are encouraged to support their fellow students by attending activities, games, meets, musical and theatrical performances. There are few greater rewards for the time and effort of preparation than the encouragement of one’s peers. Unofficial “cheerleaders” can make a significant contribution to the spirit of the school and the success of its activities.

CLUBS
SENIOR CLASS: The Senior Class of 2026 works together and shares their talents and abilities to organize and develop fundraisers, Class Week, Homecoming, Senior Prom, and Graduation.
JUNIOR CLASS: The Class of 2027 helps provide activities that will help the juniors create new friendships and learn to organize and exhibit individual skills for the benefit of the class.
SOPHOMORE CLASS: The Class of 2028 helps organize all of the sophomore functions. They begin to raise funds for their senior year. The sophomores will participate in Class Week and Homecoming.
ASPIRA– A school-based chapter of ASPIRA of New York, Inc., the Youth Leadership Academy empowers students through leadership and advocacy to become leaders today and in the future. Members engage in activities that promote educational : excellence, cultural pride, college, and career success, and—most importantly—giving back to the community.
ATHLETES HELPING ATHLETES (AHA): is an organization of helping professionals, professional athletes and high profile amateur athletes dedicated to promoting activities for young athletes that highlight the life lessons and skills inherent in sport so that they can experience the benefits and true value of athletic participation. Through the Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT), AHA trains and prepares select Central High School student athlete leaders to address complex social issues within their communities. AHA promotes educational programming for parents and coaches emphasizing the importance of their participation in the development of the young athlete. AHA’s mission is to inspire leadership through sport, while addressing social issues such as life skills, sportsmanship and civility, substance abuse prevention, violence prevention and physical activity. Students must play on at least one Varsity sport and must be nominated by their coach in order to be accepted into this club.
AVIATION AND DRONE CLUB: The club focuses on careers in aviation, and specifically, what it takes to become a pilot. Members will be able to fly planes professional simulator and learn the mechanics of flying.
BLACK STUDENT UNION (BSU): is a club to recognize student and cultural achievements. The main goal of this club is to provide an enjoyable and culturally enriching opportunity for students and to serve Central High School with cultural, educational, and social initiatives as we aim to build leaders, promote unity and contribute to student success. The BSU wants to develop stronger connections, and collaboration among students of color and all organizations. The mission and philosophy of the BSU is to help students strive for academic excellence and promote positive images of Blacks and students of color. The BSU has a passion for helping others. This club is inclusive of students of all races and ethnicities. The BSU wants to impact the community positively through truth and service.
BRAVE CLUB: The BRAVE club aims to combat bullying in our school by building respect and acceptance through various events and programs.
CADET YEARBOOK: The Cadet Yearbook Staff publishes Central High School’s yearbook. Responsibilities of the staff include layout, copy, artwork, sales, and photography. This club is only open to current 12th grade students.
CHESS CLUB*: Students meet to learn, play, and enjoy the game of chess. The club focuses on building strategic thinking, problem-solving, and friendly competition, welcoming both beginners and experienced players.
CHRISTIAN CLUB: Central’s Christian Club is a place where all students are welcomed to explore and discuss shared values and faith. The club provides fellowship and spiritual support for our students and opportunities to serve others within the community.
COSMETOLOGY CLUB: is a group that focuses on the beauty industry, teaching students about hair, nails, skin care, and makeup. Cosmetology clubs will also help students learn about careers in the beauty industry.
CROCHET CLUB: This club was developed to create a space where students can learn to crochet. Starting with the fundamentals of crocheting, students will learn all the basic stitches such as a slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet. The Club works on projects together as a group, providing written patterns and helping students hands-on. By the end of the school year all students should have at least one completed project! They can choose to make a tote bag, blanket, bandana, or headband using the hooks and yarn provided for them.
CULINARY ARTS CLUB: Students will be introduced to the culinary world in the setting of an authentic commercial kitchen. They will prepare culinary delights from appetizers to desserts. Other responsibilities include fundraisers, kitchen clean-up, and consistent participation.
DANCE ENSEMBLE: Central’s Dance Ensemble is open to any student interested in gaining knowledge about dance performance and/or choreography for the dance concert.
D-LIMITZ DRUM CLUB: The D-Limitz African Drum program, founded by VSC Alumni Daniel Law Jones, unites the Central community through traditional music for impact and healing. Known for their energetic drumming and performances, the group fosters personal development in each student. Participants don’t only become their best selves but also build a valuable network for future endeavors. The Sky is D-Limitz!
EAGLE VIDEO CLUB: Eagle Video Club: This club focuses on the weekly news report broadcasted around the school’s TV’s every Monday morning as well as filming different school events and commercials.
EARTH ADVOCATES CLUB:* Earth Advocates is a club that aims to make Valley Stream Central High School a more sustainable and greener environment for future students. We will take action by hosting fundraisers for local environmental organizations, volunteer in our community, and set new conservation goals annually.
FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA, INC. (FBLA): is the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization in the world. Each year, FBLA helps over 230,000 members prepare for careers in business. FBLA inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences. Central’s chapter of the FBLA seeks to prepare students to compete at the highest degree in business competitions. Central boasts a variety of champions on the local, state and national level.
FUTURE TEACHERS CLUB: This Club’s goal is to provide students with opportunities to learn about a career in education. Our club meets every other week. Some of our activities include: field trips to local colleges to learn about education programs, classroom observations in Central and Wheeler Ave. Elementary School, community service projects, round-table discussions with administrators, teachers and student teachers, learning about lesson plans, learning about how to apply for teaching positions and discussions about different school-related issues.
FUTURE MEDICAL LEADERS OF CENTRAL: Future Medical Leaders of Central is a club that highlights careers in the medical field with discussions and guest speakers. We have also incorporated teaching some skills used across the various careers (ex: sterile gloving, suturing etc.) If you have a passion for a career in medicine or just want to learn more about it, this club is for you.
GAMING CLUB: Students are given the opportunity to socialize and have fun together based on their hobby of playing video games. Students will have an opportunity to play a variety of multi and single player games. Students participate on various game platforms.
GIRLS INC:. Girls Inc of Long Island is a leadership and empowerment organization that works with girls in high school to help them reach their full potential. Girls Inc employs mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, interactive activities, and research-based curriculum to navigate growing up healthy, educated and independent.
GOSPEL CHOIR: A group of talented young performers who showcase their vocal abilities and musical skills at local events and schools. The Gospel Choir is a unique faith-based group of student musicians, dancers, and technicians who enjoy and understand the benefits of sharing Gospel Music with our school and community.
HISPANIC HERITAGE CLUB: The Hispanic Heritage Club promotes awareness, appreciation and understanding of the people and diverse culture and traditions of the Spanish speaking community in central. The club focuses on promoting the Hispanic culture, language, and traditions through discussions, presentations, learning about different types of music and doing arts and crafts.

HOMEWORK CENTER: This center is held in the library after school and students can enjoy a nice relaxed, semi-quiet place to get work done, use the computers, alone or with friends.
JAPANESE CLUB*: Japanese club is a group that will explore the traditions, language, history, and culture of Japan. Japanese Club activities include Origami, Japanese Food, Japanese Language, Japanese Games, Anime, Japanese Calligraphy, Service Hours And more!
KEY CLUB: is an organization providing service to Central High School and the Valley Stream community. Students participate in service projects to help the needy and organize fundraisers to raise money and awareness for various charities. Key Club members develop initiative and leadership skills by serving their school and community.
KICKLINE: The Streamers are one of the spirit groups of Central HS. They dance at halftime for football and basketball games as well as at many school events. Tryouts are required to be a part of this team.
LIBRARY SQUAD: Do you love to read? Need service hours? Look no further! Join Central’s Library Squad. You can volunteer during your free period, lunch or after school. Help us decide what books to recommend, make displays and posters for events and contests, create book trailers to be aired on ETV, shelve, and organize books, decide on guest speakers to invite to the library media center, or participate in a book club.
LITERARY MAGAZINE Lost and Found: Interested in writing – creatively or journalistic? Love to attend school events or conduct interviews? Love poetry /short story writing? This club is for you! We will work on the writing, collection and lay out of Central’s Literary Magazine. We have a fiction and newspaper section that is published on the school website. This is a great platform for anyone looking to be published.
LOVE FOR OUR ELDERS*: the mission of this club is to lessen social isolation amongst the elderly population. The goal is to communicate through letters and cards to various elders living in senior homes.
MODEL UN: Model UN Club is where students simulate the United Nations, representing different countries to debate and solve global issues. It’s a hands-on way to learn about international relations, diplomacy, and world affairs.
MUSLIM STUDENT ASSOCIATION: MSA is a club aimed to provide a safe and supportive environment for all students to learn about each other’s culture as-well as develop an understanding on Islamic culture. MSA provides a strong and reliable source of information of cultures and customs among the Muslim world. MSA also is a place for other cultures to be brought into better perspective and overall serves as a place to make bonds among the student body.
MY BROTHER’S KEEPER: My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) is a program that aims to improve the lives of boys and young men of color by addressing opportunity gaps and ensuring they can reach their full potential.

PUZZLE CLUB: The Puzzle Club is a place to challenge your mind and have fun solving a variety of puzzles, from classic jigsaw to intricate logic problems! The puzzle club fosters teamwork, sharpens problem-solving skills, and offers a welcoming space to unwind and make new friends.

SADD: Students Against Destructive Decisions is an organization of students who care about the effects of drugs and alcohol on driving. SADD explores all destructive decisions that affect teenagers today: date rape, eating disorders, bias, AIDs, STD’s and tobacco. The club participates in many events.
SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Awareness): This club is first and foremost committed to providing a safe space for students to discuss issues around gender and identity. The seeks to allows students the forum to discuss not only the continuum of both gender and identity but also the impact on their personal development and growth. Events include professional talks, movie screenings, holiday ornament decorating, Pride celebrations and many others. Come to this club prepared to embrace openness and celebrate the authenticity and diversity of Central.
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD: This club will improve high school STEM enrichment via competition, courtesy of the non-profit organization, Science Olympiad. Students plan to compete in the NYS Western Long Island Regional Competition.
SOUTH ASIAN ASSOCIATION*: The South Asian Association is a club dedicated to spreading awareness and culture of South Asia. There will be multiple opportunities to volunteer, make friends and learn about this group’s culture.
STEM: This club is for students to explore their interests in STEM by providing resources and programs related to STEM. This club allows students to pursue their interests in Engineering and Science Related Topics.
STEP TEAM CLUB: The Step Team is a club that promotes school spirit through the use of dance and cheering. In step dancing, your body is actually used as an “instrument” to create rhythms and sounds through a combination of footsteps, claps, and voice. The team usually makes their debut at the Pep Rally in the fall, they perform at basketball games, in the talent show and in the dance concert in the Spring.
STUDENT COUNCIL: Student Council is the voice of Central High School; a student government dedicated to monitoring conditions and activities in the building. As a council, it listens to students’ suggestions, meets regularly with the principal and other faculty members in order to help make Central the best possible place to learn in.
THRIVING TEENS: Step into our Thriving Teens Club, where bonds are created and passions ignited. With a dedicated focus on team and relationship building, our club fosters an environment where members can flourish both personally and socially. Each month, we curate exciting events tailored to pique the diverse interests of high school students, ensuring there’s something for everyone. In our meetings, we delve into the challenges of navigating academics and social struggles, providing a supportive space for discussion and growth. Join us as we empower each other to navigate the highs and lows of teenage life with confidence.
WEIGHT TRAINING CLUB: The Weight Training Club is open to all students at Central. The focus is on muscular fitness and cardiovascular programs.
WORLD OF DIFFERENCE- PEER MENTORING: The Peer Mentoring Club is designed to provide a positive transition to the high school from 10th graders and new entrants. Peer mentors provide opportunities that encourage academic success and fosters a sense of belonging to Valley Stream Central High School. Members encourage active involvement in school activities and organizations; serve as positive role models; and share experiences and knowledge they have gained as students at Valley Stream central High School. Peer Mentors come together for planned activities throughout the year.
