Central High School 2022 Blue Ribbon Celebration

A Message from Central’s Principal – Candace Hugee

It is with great pride that I extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of the entire Valley Stream Central High School staff. As the Principal of this esteemed, National Blue Ribbon institution, I am thrilled to lead a distinguished community where high expectations are met, nestled in love and support.

At Valley Stream Central High School, we believe that every student possesses unique talents, passions, and aspirations. Our mission is to nurture and guide our students on a path of academic excellence, personal growth, and character development. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages all to explore their potential, expand your horizons, and embrace challenges.

The Pillars of A Comprehensive Central High School Educational Experience are:

  1. Academic Excellence: Our dedicated and highly qualified faculty members are committed to providing an engaging, culturally relevant and rigorous curriculum that prepares our students for success in higher education and beyond. With our wide range of Advanced Placement courses, career and technical education programs and world class performing arts opportunities, all students receive a well-rounded education.
  2. Parent Involvement: We recognize and honor the invaluable role parents play in a student’s education. We actively encourage and welcome parent involvement in school activities, meetings, and events. High school is the time to be most involved!
  3. Extracurricular Activities: The high school journey is not only about academics. Our vibrant selection of clubs, sports teams, art programs, and community service opportunities will allow students to discover your passions and develop leadership skills.
  4. Safe and Supportive Environment: The well-being of each student is our top priority. Our school fosters a safe and inclusive atmosphere where students can express themselves freely, forge lasting friendships, and receive the guidance they need to navigate the challenges of adolescence. Restorative Practices are woven throughout our curriculum and ensures that every student is seen and heard.
  5. College and Career Preparation: As students approach matriculation throughout their high school career, our dedicated counselors will assist in navigating the college application process and exploring various career pathways and scholarship opportunities. We are committed to setting our students up for post-secondary success.

Remember, the high school experience is a pivotal chapter in your child’s life story. The Valley Stream Central High School staff are excited to play a part in shaping their journey and helping them achieve their dreams. I am looking forward to a successful school year with many accomplishments to celebrate!

Sincerely,
Candace Hugee
