The district is proud to announce that Central High School students Uwakmfon-abasi Ebong and Emily Monfort were selected as Nassau County winners of the virtual National Poetry Read Out Loud Recitation Competition and will be moving onto the New York State Regional Competition.
The purpose of the competition is to help students master public speaking skills, self-confidence and encourage them to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. Several students throughout the district participated in the competition, where they uploaded prerecorded videos of their chosen piece. Each video was judged on several categories, including physical presence, dramatic appropriateness and accuracy.
The district applauds all students who participated and wishes Emily and Uwakmfon-abasi the best of luck at the state level, which is slated to take place in mid-March.
