Each summer, students in the Valley Stream Central High School District are encouraged to continue reading. Summer Reading is critical for students to retain skills and avoid the “summer slump” that often comes with the break in the school routine. The VSCHSD requires that each student read one book during summer break. When students return in September, they will be assessed on their chosen book through a reflection and project in their English classes. Students will have the opportunity to seek extra help from their teachers before the assignment is due.
We are excited to present our Suggested Summer Reading List to the students of the Valley Stream Central High School District. The English Departments and librarians from each school collaborated to create a list of favorite titles featuring a diverse array of authors, characters, genres, and topics. We encourage families to review the list together to select the most suitable and engaging book for each student. While the list is meant as a suggestion, students are free to choose any book to read over the summer.
Suggested book lists
