Each summer, students in the Valley Stream Central High School District are encouraged to continue reading. Summer Reading is critical for students to retain skills and avoid the “summer slump” that often comes with the break in the school routine. VSCHSD requires that each student read one book and complete an assignment during summer break.
We are excited to share our Suggested Summer Reading List with the students of the Valley Stream Central High School District. The English Departments and librarians at each school worked together to compile a list of favorite titles which includes a diversity of authors, characters, genres, and topics. We ask that families thoughtfully go through the list together to choose the most appropriate and most interesting selection for individual students. The developed lists are just a suggestion list, so students may choose any book to read this summer.
Students are also required to complete a written reflection which will be due the first week of school. Students can download the reflection here or access the document from their school Team pages. Students will have an opportunity for extra help with their teachers prior to submission. In September, students will be assessed on the book they have read with an assigned project.
