Valley Stream North High School held its 2026 commencement ceremony, marking a milestone moment for the graduating class as they closed one chapter and prepared to begin another.
The ceremony was a celebration of perseverance, growth, and the bonds formed over years of shared experiences. Graduates were recognized not only for their academic achievements but also for the contributions they made to the school community. With diplomas in hand, they walked across the stage one final time as classmates.
Student leaders offered reflections on their shared experiences. Valedictorian Ravjot Singh spoke about overcoming self-doubt and embracing the Sikh concept of Chardi Kala: a rising spirit.
“Stop asking, what if you can’t? Start asking, what if you can? And then don’t wait for someone to answer it for you. Go be the answer,” Ravjot said. “You are leaving with more than a diploma. You’re leaving with every hard moment you pushed through, every time you showed up when you really didn’t want to. That’s yours. It goes wherever you go.”
Salutatorian Jules Dekel encouraged graduates to remember their resilience.
“You have already survived some of your worst days. So, in the years to come, take the risk, be brave, and don’t be afraid to make a mistake,” Jules said. “Don’t be afraid to make memories, laugh, celebrate, do the things you love, try new things, and embrace the uncomfortable.”
The graduates now look ahead to the next chapter, carrying with them the lessons, friendships, and memories made during their time at North.
