North STOP Club Prepares Brunch for Hospitalized Children

June 28, 2023

North High School’s Spartans Taking On Problems, or STOP Club, prepared a brunch for hospitalized children at the Ronald McDonald House at LIJ Northwell Hospital in New Hyde Park. The 11 students were able to feed 40 children at the charity at the brunch held on May 21.

The students raised over $500 for the brunch by selling shoe charms and hosting a bake sale and an ice cream sale. The group planned the menu, prepared shopping lists, and organized the entirety of the morning. The students cooked pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast for the residents. The students also baked muffins and prepared fruit salads for the residents.

The STOP Club is dedicated to improving the local community by providing support to underserved groups and individuals. It is led by advisor Catherine Modzelewski.

“Today was entirely made possible due to the hard work of the students,” Ms. Modzelewski said. “I am so very proud to be a part of this amazing group.”
