Valley Stream, NEW YORK (March, 2022)—Seven Valley Stream North High School student-athletes competed at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Winter Track & Field Championships in Staten Island on March 5.
Clemson University-bound Ryan John won the state title in the triple jump event and finished second in the long jump. Additionally, Ryan was selected as a NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Award winner. His first-place finish makes him the seventh individual state champion for North’s track and field program.
Sophomore Kevin Beltran competed in the sectional distance medley relay. Kevin ran the 1,000-meter leg for the Nassau County team. The relay team earned All-State honors by finishing in fifth place.
Ariana Paul, who is headed to NC State University in the fall, competed in two events for the Spartans. She represented the Spartans well with a 14th-place finish in the long jump performance and a 17th-place finish statewide in the triple jump.
Finally, the Spartans 4×400-meter relay team— comprising Sedgeley Duperval (10th grade), Jonathon JJ Xavier (12th), GuyAlden Chery (12th), and Daniel Ellis (12th)—finished in 13th place. VSN’s time of 3:32.99 is a new school record, beating the former time of 3:33.95 posted in 2018.
