From Feb. 10-14 the SADD Club hosted Red Ribbon Week at Valley Stream North High School. Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that advocates against the use of drugs and promotes living a drug-free life.
During the week many contests took place to promote this cause. Seventh graders participated in a poetry contest that followed the theme “Send a message. Stay drug-free.” Erin Garnier won the poetry contest with her poem, “Imagine.” In addition to the poetry contest, students from all grades participated in a locker decorating contest, where students decorated their lockers with the same drug-free theme. Winners were Amna Raja and Ella Puccio.
For the first time at North, teachers participated in a “Teacher Door Celebration” contest. Doors throughout the building were decorated with drug-free themes to help advocate against drugs. The winner was Mr. Demario from Room 112.
SADD’s Red Ribbon Week was a complete success where both students and faculty supported this campaign to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs.
