For the second year in a row, North High School’s Varsity Girls Volleyball team has earned the conference title. The win came after moving up to the A2 Conference from A3 the previous year. In both seasons, the team had an overall record of 13-1.
With seven returning players this season, the team worked hard throughout the summer to prepare for the rigorous schedule. After losing their first game of the season in five sets, the team went on an incredible winning streak, never losing again. After a four-way tie for first place in the conference, the Spartans took the championship with a win against H. Frank Carey High School.
One senior, Kayla Santo, has been on the team since 8th grade and was also a member of the girls’ 2018 undefeated championship season. Besides winning the championship, the following individual members won post season honors:
- Kayla Santo—Top 50 Nassau County Volleyball Players, All-County
- Alyanna Nadal—All-County
- Isabella Matura—All-County Honorable Mention
- Nattaly Lindo—All-County Honorable Mention
- Gabrielle DiCostanzo—All-Conference
- Isabella Feldman—All-Conference
- Coach Mary Parisi—Coach of the Year (3 years in a row)
Head Coach Mary Parisi attributed the team’s success to mental toughness, communication and court leadership, particularly from Captains DiCostanzo, Matura and Santo. “I am extremely proud of this extraordinary group of young ladies. Winning back-to-back championships was our team goal this year and it is a tremendous accomplishment to move up a conference and still finish on top.”
