Memorial Junior High School’s Girls Inc. took a field trip to the Northwell Health hospital in Glen Cove on June 2. The experience gave students the opportunity to learn about various hospital functions and the medical professions offered through the Northwell Health system.
As part of the trip, the club members met and learned from women in various fields at the hospital during a career panel. The students also took on a tour of the hospital. It included stops at Northwell’s simulation lab, where the students were able to practice chest compressions on a simulated patient as well as a hospital room where they were able to observe patients being treated.
The girls were also taught how to successfully deliver an elevator pitch and market themselves. Girls Inc.’s mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold by using a combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and research-based programming. Memorial’s chapter is led by School Psychologist Chanei Patterson.
