Thirteen students from Memorial Junior High School were selected as winners in the annual LILT (Long Island Language Teachers) World Language Competition Winners. Students in French, Italian and Spanish composed original poetry in their World Language classes for submission. Poems are judged on originality, creativity and use of the language.
First place awards went to David Chukwudi, Shivcharan Chumber, Frankie Gonzalez and Tiffany Sambhu for their respective language categories. Second place awards were earned by Alex Durgadeen, Anthony Escamilla and Elodie Jason, while third place distinctions were achieved by Jean Daryl Derinaeu, Grace Pena and Stacey Ulysse. Emmanuel Kasiotis, Julie Rivera and Devaj Singh were awarded Honorable Mentions.
