Valley Stream Memorial Junior High School eighth grade student Afrin Ahmed has been awarded a Bronze Level Award in the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County’s annual Student Art Competition.
Afrin’s artwork was selected, from a competitive field of entries, to be featured on a page in the 2026 Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Nassau Gardening Calendar and Guide. This publication provides home gardeners throughout the county with research-based information and best practices.
In addition to being published, Afrin’s art will be displayed at the organization’s headquarters office in Eisenhower Park. She will be honored at a reception for all winners in October, during which she will receive a certificate of accomplishment and a complimentary calendar.
