Valley Stream, NEW YORK (December, 2021) — This December, members of the Valley Stream Memorial Junior High School BRAVE Club are helping spread holiday cheer to children at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island. The Believe in the Rights and Values of Everyone, or BRAVE, club promotes kindness and understanding of one another; a key way it achieves this is through community service.
For their latest project, BRAVE members created more than 40 gift bags for patients in the hospital’s Child Life Program. The students decorated each bag with a custom positive holiday message, and each contained crayons and a coloring book designed by the club, according to advisor Amanda Milano.
“This is a fun way for the students to give back to the community around them and help people who might be struggling during the holidays,” Ms. Milano said.
This is the fourth year that students in the BRAVE Club have delivered gifts to the hospital; the bags will be distributed on the patients’ lunch trays to help lift their spirits during the holidays.
Added Ms. Milano: “We just want to put a smile on their face while they’re going through a hard time.”
