Honoring South’s Class of 2026

Valley Stream South High School celebrated the Class of 2026 at their recent commencement ceremony.

The event was filled with pride and nostalgia as graduates reflected on their collective journey through high school. Students were recognized for their hard work and their impact on the school community, and with diplomas in hand, they took their final steps together as classmates.

Student leaders offered reflections on their shared experiences.

Valedictorian Vijay Singh urged graduates to care deeply about those around them.

“Never be afraid to be invested, to care. Don’t let fears about a lack of reciprocity discourage you from being the most caring individual you can be,” they said. “No man is an island is only true if we seek to involve ourselves, to support others, to love, and to notice all the people around us wherever we go.”

Salutatorian Alexa Joy encouraged her classmates to embrace discomfort as a path to growth.

“In life, we will fail. We will embarrass ourselves and we will doubt ourselves much of the way. But by doing so, you will also grow as a person,” Joy said. “You will expand your capabilities and interests. You will become stronger and more secure, thus allowing you to take the steps necessary to succeed in life.”

The graduates now look ahead to the next chapter, carrying with them the lessons, friendships, and memories made during their time at South.
