District Celebrates Year of Success, Accomplishments

The district had a lot to celebrate at the June board of education meeting, as members of the board and administrators recognized the Class of 2021 top students, retirees, building accomplishments and former board of education members.

The evening kicked off with Central, North and South high schools’ principals honoring their respective valedictorian and salutatorian. Students who were in attendance to receive their plaque and certificate of merit were Central’s salutatorian Mary Chong; North’s valedictorian Sumaiya Ramsaroop and salutatorian Alexandra Wells; and South’s valedictorian Amrit Pabla. Central’s valedictorian Peace Oloko and South’s salutatorian Zhi Lin will also be receiving their plaque and certificate of merit.

Administrators also celebrated 18 staff members who will be retiring this year. The district thanks them for all their years of commitment, hard work and dedication to students. All retirees received plaques as a token of appreciation for their decades of service.

While recognizing their students and retired staff, all building principals were also given certificates of merit for their building’s accomplishments. Central, North and South high schools were recognized for earning the U.S. News & World Report and WalletHub 2021 Ranking of the Best High Schools. Meanwhile Memorial Junior High School was also acknowledged for earning the New York State Education Department’s School to Watch 2021.

District celebrations concluded with board members and administrators honoring retired board member Anthony Iadevaio and outgoing board member William P. Stris. Mr. Iadevaio and Mr. Stris were acknowledged for their hard work and commitment to their positions, as they each dedicated more than 30 years of service to the students and community.
