Student-artists from Valley Stream Central High School had a strong showing at the prestigious New York State Art Teachers Association’s Olympics of the Visual Arts in Saratoga Springs, New York earlier this April. The event challenged participants with both long-term art projects developed throughout the school year and an on-the-spot creative challenge testing teamwork and quick thinking.
Junior Jazlin Del Castillo took First Place in architecture for her design of a modern brownstone featuring a hidden underground biophilic garden. Judges praised her visionary concept, which was supported by research assistance from junior Sophia Ahmed and on-site teamwork from seniors Sofia Vela and Carlos Suazo, along with junior Malia Lall.
In the fashion category, seniors Wajeeha Qidwai and Valery Cardona, along with sophomore Victoria Magliore, showcased a wearable paper dress inspired by the Gilded Age.
