Valley Stream, NEW YORK (December, 2021) — Valley Stream Central High School student Aryanna Headley has been named a QuestBridge Scholar, and is receiving a full, four-year scholarship to Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
Headley was one of more than 16,500 high school seniors nationwide who applied to QuestBridge and one of 1,674 who were ultimately recognized as Match Scholarship recipients this year. Students who received the scholarship had an average unweighted GPA of 3.92 and 92 percent are in the top ten percent of their graduating class.
“Motivated, energetic, diligent, insightful, witty, and mature are some of the adjectives that come to mind when I think of Aryanna Headley,” said Amy La Personerie, Headley’s school counselor. “Throughout high school, she has always sought support and encouragement from me in all aspects of her life, both in school and personally.”
Ms. La Personerie noted that Headley has never been one to shy away from a challenge, and has been pursuing six Advanced Placement courses while remaining in the top five percent of her class during her senior year at Central High School.
“She has a talent and creative energy that is a rare find,” she said.
Headley plans to study neuroscience at Wesleyan and pursue her dream of becoming a surgeon working with trauma patients.
“Aryanna Headley has worked extremely hard to meet and surpass expectations embedded in Central’s academic culture,” Central High School Principal Dr. Joseph Pompilio said. “She is a role model for every Central student given her work ethic and quiet grace. On behalf of the faculty, I congratulate Aryanna for achieving the Questbridge Scholarship and guarantee her success in college.”
