Central Student is a National Merit Finalist

March 25, 2024

Valley Stream Central High School student Saajed Yaseen has been named a 2024 National Merit Finalist. This prestigious recognition is bestowed on only around 14,000 students nationwide among 1.3 million applicants.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation seeks to identify academically talented students throughout the United States. Factors in the selection process include students’ academic records, PSAT/NMSQT scores, an essay submission, demonstrated leadership and contributions to school and community activities, and a school official’s written recommendation.

Saajed’s recognition as a finalist means he is in the running to be one of around 7,100 students to receive a National Merit Scholarship of $2,500 for 2024.

“Saajed has demonstrated not just a major dedication to his academics, but also his community,” said Central High School Principal Candace Hugee. “He is yet another example of Central’s focus on success both in and out of the classroom.”
