Central High School senior Hajra Younas, an accomplished student-photographer, had her work selected for display in the Dear New York community art installation at Grand Central Terminal. This large-scale project, created and sponsored by Brandon Stanton of the renowned Humans of New York series, transformed the historic terminal into a massive public gallery from October 6 to October 19.
The Dear New York installation was conceived as a “visual love letter” to the city and its people, removing all advertising from Grand Central for the first time in its 112-year history. In its place, the work of over 1,000 artists was displayed, including thousands of portraits and stories from the Humans of New York archive. Hajra’s photograph was part of this historic exhibit, which featured 50-foot-tall projections in the Main Concourse and displays throughout the subway tunnels.
“Hajra is an extremely talented and motivated photographer,” said teacher Kristi Massaro, noting that a number of Hajra’s works can also be seen in the Central school library.
