The Valley Stream Central High School Science Olympiad Team A showcased dedication and teamwork at a major invitational tournament hosted by Columbia University on Saturday, January 24. Competing against 81 teams from across New York, New Jersey, and beyond, the team earned a commendable 40th-place overall finish.
The team’s day began before dawn with a 5:00 a.m. departure, arriving on campus to prepare for a full day of competition, and the students excelled in several categories.
Notable individual event rankings included a 9th-place finish in Bungee Drop, an 11th-place in the trial Science Quiz Bowl, and a 15th-place ranking in trial Ornithology. The team also earned top-25 placements in Entomology, Electric Vehicle, Helicopter, and Engineering CAD.
“Our students demonstrated strong perseverance and teamwork throughout the day,” said Science Olympiad Advisor Vinita Singh. “I am genuinely proud of everyone.”
Next, the team is preparing for the upcoming Science Olympiad Nassau County Regional Competition
