Valley Stream Central High School recently held its 2026 commencement ceremony, celebrating the achievements of its Class of 2026.
The ceremony was one of bittersweet reflection, honoring students for their academic accomplishments, extracurricular involvement, and contributions to the school community. It was also the last time the students would be together as high schoolers. Throughout, student leaders reflected on their time together as classmates and offered advice for the future.
Valedictorian Alishba Chaudhry spoke about the communities that shaped her, beginning with her parents, Pakistani immigrants who instilled in her a strong sense of culture and hard work.
“Today of all days, thank those special people, love them wholeheartedly, and make meaningful memories with them while it still counts,” Alishba said. “As we leave the ceremony today, wonder and mystery will fill our hearts, and we will each glimpse the countless memories we made together, the laughter we all shared, and the identities and communities we each created.”
Salutatorian Abdul Haseeb reflected on his personal journey, recalling how he struggled with English as a young student and worked to improve over time.
“Success comes from seeing where you came from and noticing your efforts to be just a little bit better,” Abdul said. “Success isn’t being perfect, rich, or having all the answers; it’s recognizing your progress, learning from your challenges, and continuing to move forward one step at a time.”
The graduates now look ahead to the next chapter, carrying with them the lessons, friendships, and memories made during their time at Valley Stream Central.
