A Message to Staff for Superintendent’s Conference Day

August 31, 2023

Welcome Back!

It’s a privilege to stand before you as the Superintendent of Schools and extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering commitment to our students, our schools, and our shared vision of excellence in education. You will see many new faces joining us on our journey this year. I would like to take a moment and introduce the new District Administrators: Ms. Candace Hugee, Principal of Central High School; Mr. Matthew Swinson, Principal of South High School; and Ms. Nakeshia Smith-Farnum, Director of Restorative Practices and Community Engagement.

The start of a new school year is much more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a fresh chapter in our story, an opportunity to build upon the successes of the past, and a chance to embrace new challenges. As you step back into your classrooms, you bring with you a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of our community’s needs, and a passion for fostering growth in every one of your students.

Our journey as educators is far from linear; it’s a continuous cycle of learning, adapting, and inspiring. The world around us is in constant motion, and our classrooms are microcosms of this ever-changing landscape. You, our extremely talented teachers, are the anchors that provide stability, guidance, and inspiration to both your students and your fellow colleagues.

Your dedication extends beyond the classroom walls. Your willingness to collaborate, share insights, and lend a helping hand exemplifies the true spirit of our educational community. The bonds you’ve forged with your students and peers over the years are a testament to the nurturing environment you’ve created, where both minds and hearts find room to grow.

As you step into this new school year, I encourage you to embrace innovation and change. The challenges we face are opportunities in disguise, they are moments where we can demonstrate the resilience and adaptability that make educators exceptional people. Whether it’s integrating new educational programs, refining your teaching methods, or finding creative solutions to improve classroom dynamics, your experiences and wisdom will guide the way.

Always remember, the impact you make goes beyond textbooks and lessons. You shape the future by instilling confidence, nurturing curiosity, and empowering students to believe in their own potential. Your dedication leaves an indelible mark, guiding our students towards their dreams and helping them navigate the complexities of the world. Your journey is intertwined with the growth of our students, and their successes are a reflection of your dedication. Let’s continue to foster an environment where kindness, respect, and a passion for learning flourish.

I am confident that the year ahead will be filled with triumphs both big and small. Thank you for all that you do, and here’s to a successful and fulfilling school year ahead!
