101 VALLEY STREAM HS STUDENTS EARN ALL-COUNTY MUSIC HONORS

6 SELECTED FOR NYSSMA ALL-STATE CONFERENCE

The Valley Stream Central High School District Coordinator of Fine & Performing Arts, Todd Holly, and the Valley Stream Music Departments are pleased to announce that 101 students from Central, North and South High Schools and Memorial Junior High were selected, through both auditions and teacher recommendations, to perform in the 2009-2010 Nassau All-County Music Festival to be held in January at C.W. Post University. The All-County Concerts will showcase students’ choral, band and orchestral skills. Ten were also selected to participate in two Long Island String Festivals to be held in November at the Wisdom Lane Middle School in Levittown and six were selected to perform at the 94th Annual New York State School Music Association Conference to be held in Rochester, New York in December.

Students chosen from Central High School for All-County were: Ariel Bourne, Melijah Robinson, Heather LaBarbera, Gabriel Carberry for chorus, Laurianna Rosado, Melisa Baena, Cassandra Buckhout, Jaclyn Gaglione for band, Ashley Santiago, Sapphire Greene, Margaret Milano, Brettany Tu for orchestra, Max Meltzer for mixed chorus, Danice Jones, Caterina Cusenza, for women’s chorus.

Memorial Junior High School musicians named to All-County were: Zachary Bua, Breanne Casucci, Joseph McGee for band, Lauren Bennis, Lucas Conde, Donald Moore, Antonia Roth, Jennifer Sorace, Diego Suarez-Rojas, Madelyne Pena, Winchel St. Fleur for chorus, Ryan Milano for jazz band, Danielle Salvatierra, Samantha Sancho, David Meltzer, Jason Shen for orchestra.

Students selected to perform in the 2009-10 Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) Middle School Division were: Michelle Chen, Nelsy Badia, Ayokunle Fagbemi from North High, Isabelle Reginio and Christopher Faust from South High and Jason Shen from Memorial Junior High. Senior High Division students selected were: Anna Lebedeva from North High, Joseph Schmidt from South High, Brettany Tu and Margaret Milano from Central High.

Students selected to the New York State School Music Association All-State String Orchestra were: Margaret Milano, Brettany Tu, Sapphire Greene, Melisa Baena and Cassandra Buckhout from Central High and Samuel Hyun from South High.
